Abstract

This study examines the interpretations of Quranic verses concerning zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), qadhf (false accusation of zina), and polygamy in classical and contemporary Islamic thought. Employing a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative thematic analysis and quantitative content analysis, the research scrutinizes selected tafsir works and contemporary interpretive theories, including Fazlur Rahman's Double Movement Theory, Muhammad Shahrour's Nazariyyat al-Hudud, and Maqasid al-Shari'ah. Key findings reveal both continuities in fundamental prohibitions and significant divergences in contextual applications, particularly concerning the understanding of justice and societal welfare. Contemporary frameworks offer dynamic and contextualized understandings that address modern ethical challenges, promoting a more nuanced and adaptable Islamic jurisprudence.
