Abstract

This study investigates the implementation and impact of ecolabeling as a global environmental policy mechanism using a mixed-method approach. Through quantitative analysis of ecolabeling adoption rates across 25 countries and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders—government officials, NGOs, and industry representatives—we uncover significant variations in policy frameworks, public awareness, and industry compliance. The results show that countries with robust legal infrastructure and consumer environmental awareness tend to have higher ecolabeling compliance rates and effectiveness. Qualitative data reveal that trust, transparency, and third-party verification are essential for the credibility of ecolabels. However, challenges such as greenwashing and uneven regulatory enforcement persist. This research contributes to policy discourse by offering a comparative understanding of ecolabeling governance models and by recommending best practices for enhancing ecolabel transparency, effectiveness, and global harmonization.
