Abstract

Environmental policy plays a strategic role in ensuring the continuity of sustainable development, particularly in the face of accelerating industrialization and environmental degradation. This study explores the effectiveness of environmental policy implementation in promoting sustainable development in Indonesia. Using a mixed-method approach, quantitative data were collected through a survey of 300 respondents from environmental agencies and local communities, while qualitative insights were obtained via in-depth interviews with policymakers, academics, and NGO leaders. The results reveal that while environmental policies have shown positive impacts—especially in areas such as pollution control and reforestation—significant implementation gaps remain due to regulatory fragmentation, limited community involvement, and weak institutional enforcement. The study emphasizes the need for integrated, participatory, and context-specific environmental governance to align policy design with local socio-ecological realities. It concludes with a framework for reinforcing policy coherence and inclusive stakeholder engagement to achieve long-term environmental sustainability.
