Kajian Pendekatan Filosofis dalam Studi Islam
Abstract
The philosophical approach in Islamic studies provides a profound epistemological foundation in understanding the essence, methodology, and objectives of Islam as a comprehensive worldview. This research investigates the application, relevance, and academic perception of philosophical methods in Islamic studies in Indonesia, where traditional, textualist, and legalistic orientations dominate. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study surveyed 120 Islamic studies lecturers and postgraduate students and conducted in-depth interviews with 10 senior scholars from major Islamic universities. The findings reveal that while the philosophical approach is appreciated for its critical depth and integrative analysis, it remains underutilized due to epistemological skepticism and methodological rigidity within the academic community. The quantitative data show a moderate level of acceptance, with 62% of respondents supporting its inclusion in curriculum design. The qualitative insights underscore the need for methodological pluralism and philosophical literacy among Islamic scholars. The study recommends the integration of philosophical discourse in Islamic higher education through interdisciplinary modules, critical thinking development, and curriculum reform aligned with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and contemporary thought.
