Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of moral development programs in shaping the character of children at the Al-Washliyah Orphanage in Binjai City. The research aims to understand how structured religious and moral guidance impacts the development of children's character traits such as discipline, honesty, empathy, and responsibility. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the quantitative aspect involved a survey of 45 orphans using a validated character development scale, while the qualitative aspect included interviews with caregivers, religious mentors, and the children themselves. The results revealed a significant correlation between the moral development programs and positive character formation, particularly in aspects of emotional regulation and social responsibility. Qualitative data further reinforced that routine religious practices, moral storytelling, and personal mentoring were critical in instilling core Islamic values. The findings affirm that structured moral education can serve as a transformative tool for vulnerable children, supporting both their psychological well-being and moral identity. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on Islamic character education in institutional care settings and recommends replicable moral education frameworks for orphanages across Indonesia
