Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of moral development programs at the Darul Hamid As Salam Orphanage in Binjai in shaping the character of its foster children. Moral education is a crucial aspect of child development, particularly for those living in institutional care, where the absence of parental guidance makes structured moral training essential. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this research explores the strategies, materials, and activities implemented by the orphanage in fostering good character traits such as discipline, honesty, responsibility, and empathy. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that the moral coaching at Darul Hamid As Salam is systematically structured through religious activities, daily routines, mentoring, and role modeling by caregivers. These efforts have significantly contributed to the positive character development of the children. However, several challenges remain, including limited human resources and varying levels of psychological readiness among the children. Overall, the moral development program at Darul Hamid As Salam has proven to be effective in cultivating ethical and responsible behavior in foster children, though further support and enhancement are needed to optimize long-term outcomes.
