Abstract

The accusative case (nashab) constitutes a fundamental component of Arabic grammar and plays a crucial role in determining syntactic structure and meaning. Despite its importance, many learners of Arabic experience significant difficulties in understanding and applying the rules of nashab correctly. These difficulties often lead to grammatical errors and misinterpretations of meaning, particularly in reading classical Arabic texts and the Qur’an. This article aims to analyze the factors contributing to learners’ difficulties in comprehending the rules of nashab in Arabic grammar. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study examines classical and contemporary Arabic grammar literature as well as studies on Arabic language learning. The findings indicate that the complexity of nashab rules, learners’ limited mastery of nahwu concepts, and instructional approaches that emphasize memorization over contextual understanding are major sources of difficulty. This study highlights the need for more contextual and application-oriented teaching strategies in Arabic grammar instruction.
