Abstract

Tests play an important role in the educational assessment process because they are used to see the extent to which students have achieved learning objectives. In general, there are two types of tests that are widely used, namely standardized tests and non-standardized tests. This study focuses on analyzing the fundamental differences between the two, including their advantages, limitations, and benefits in learning activities. Standardized tests are developed using standard rules and are usually applied in large-scale evaluations, such as national assessments, college admissions, and professional certification exams. Although this type of test is known for its high accuracy and consistency, some argue that standardized tests are unable to fully capture the diversity of students' abilities. The results of the study show that the simultaneous use of both types of tests can provide a broader and more in-depth evaluation, thereby having a positive impact on the learning process. Therefore, educators need to understand the characteristics of each test so that they can design appropriate evaluation strategies that meet the needs of students. Ultimately, this study offers a new perspective on the importance of designing an evaluation system that is more adaptive, inclusive, and relevant to the demands of today's education.
